Prehistory
- Hundreds of Millions of Years Ago: A creature experiences fear for the first time, creating the Thing That Was Fear, later known as the Hunt. It begins to manifest in predators chasing prey, and predators becoming prey themselves.
- ~300,000 BC: First humans evolve, giving new facets to the Thing That Was Fear. It split, first causing the separation of the Thing That Was Fear into the Hunt and the Dark. Finally cognizant of the fear of their own deaths causes the End to manifest. Soon after comes the fear of being watched and forbidden knowledge, becoming the Eye and Spiral respectively. Soon after came the fear of the unknown figure, the Stranger. With that came the fear of being alone, and so the Lonely manifested.
- Some Time Later: Humans discover fire and the Desolation manifests as well.
- The Next Few Centuries: The Vast, Corruption, Flesh, Slaughter, Buried, and Web manifest from new facets of human fear.
- Unknown Time: The first Avatar of the Fears is created, thinning the walls between their reality and ours. Monsters begin to manifest in the world.
Early Human History
- Pre-Recorded History:
- The first Archivists are chosen by the Eye.
- 3300-1300 BC:
- Indus Valley Civilization creates burial pit which has some corpses with removed eyes and others that were buried alive, likely in defiance of the Eye.
- 2613- 2494 BC:
- Pyramid is constructed to contain a mummy likely tainted by the End.
- 4th century AD:
- A cult dedicated to the Dark and possibly masquerading as Christian zealots sacks the Serapeum of Alexandria, a surviving annex of the great library that served as an early archive. Despite this, a significant portion of the Serapeum, as well as its inhuman Archivist, survives the attack.
- 1279:
- Johan Von Wurttemburg's tomb is claimed by the Eye.
- Somewhere in 1533-1594:
- The person who will one day be known as Simon Fairchild apprentices under the painter Tintoretto and, enticed by the skies in his paintings, surrenders himself to the Vast.
1700s
- 1714:
- Unknown Date (Pre-2 May): Edmund Halley is converted to service of the Dark by a mysterious group of followers with dark eyes.
- 2 May: Flamsteed drowns Halley in a dark pool in the forest.
- 4 May: Halley is revived as an avatar and thanks Flamsteed for his help.
- 1715:
- John Flamsteed gives his statement (MAG 140 - The Movement of the Heavens).
- 1719:
- 31 December: Flamsteed dies and is succeeded by Halley, who then serves as Astronomer Royale for the rest of his natural life.
- Unknown Point After: Halley changes his name to Maxwell Raynor.
- 1775:
- Nathaniel Thorp is critically injured in the Revolutionary War and plays a game with a manifestation of Death, winning but becoming a personification of Death himself for almost 200 years.
- 1787:
- October: The Unknowing is attempted by Wolfgang Von Kempelen.
- 2 November: Abraham Janssen gives his statement (MAG 116 - The Show Must Go On).
- 1799:
- Jeremy Bentham begins to work on the Panopticon, on the site that would become Milbank Prison.
1800s
- 1815:
- Winter: Albrecht von Closen finds the tomb of Johann von Württemberg in the Schwartzwald.
- 1816:
- 21 March: Albrecht von Closen writes a letter to Jonah Magnus (MAG 23 - Schwartzwald.)
- Unknown Date: Rudolph Zeitler is brutally killed after stealing from Johann von Württemberg's tomb.
- 1818:
- Unknown Date: The Magnus Institute is founded.
- 1821:
- Unknown Date: Millbank Penitentiary is completed.
- 1824:
- 9 April: Barnabas Bennett writes a letter to Jonah Magnus asking for help in freeing him from a world with no other people (MAG 92 - Nothing Beside Remains).
- 1831
- April - November: Doctor Jonathan Fanshawe visits Albrecht von Closen and attempts to help him get well. When Albrecht dies, Fanshawe finds eyes inside him.
- 21 November: Doctor Jonathan Fanshawe writes a letter to Jonah Magnus telling him of the event (MAG 127 - Remains to be Seen).
- 1834:
- Unknown Date: Sampson Kempthorne takes on George Gilbert Scott, an apprentice of Robert Smirke and follower of the Buried, as a protégé, and Scott suggests more cramped designs for workhouses. Scott eventually leaves Kempthorne's service and starts building workhouses of his own design.
- 1835:
- Unknown Date: Robert Smirke builds tunnels underneath Pall Mall.
- 1836:
- Unknown date: George Gilbert Scott opens the first of his workhouses. That night Sampson Kempthorne encounters a creature of the Buried due to one of Scott's blueprints left behind in Kempthorne's offices. Kempthorne returns Scott's blueprint, witnessing a worker who had been entombed in the workhouse's wall.
- 1837:
- August: Hezekiah Wakely writes a letter to Nathaniel Beale about his new job as a sextant and his newfound fulfillment in digging graves.
- 1838:
- February: Hezekiah Wakely writes another letter to Nathaniel about his newfound enjoyment in sleeping in graves, and a dream he had while sleeping in one.
1900s
- 1918:
- Spring, exact date unknown: Wilfred Owen is caught in an artillery explosion during an attack on the Hindenburg Line. He meets the Piper, a creature of the Slaughter, and it spares his life in exchange for him becoming an avatar of the Slaughter, to spread depictions of war in his poetry and to kill his enemies with unbridled savagery.
- November 4th: The end of World War I is assured, and Wilfred Owen dies instantly.
- 1941:
- November: Walter Heller is hospitalized in Alexandria after the destruction of his tank in Operation Crusader. During his convalescence he takes to wandering the city and stumbles across the Serapeum of the Great Library of Alexandria that served as an ancient iteration of the Archives, and encounters an ancient Archivist.
- 1952:
- November: Another Circus arrives in the Russian village of Algasovo and the child Yuri Utkin witnesses the Stranger's effects on the people of his town. Surprisingly the entire town manages to survive the performance.
- 1959:
- Autumn: Homeless orphans Trevor and Nigel Herbert are compelled by a vampire to enter its home. The vampire kills Nigel before Trevor kills and burns it.
- 1960s:
- Raymond Fielding, an avatar of the Web, turns the house on Hilltop Road as a halfway house for teenaged delinquents, killing them when they reach the age of majority and are expected to leave.
- Agnes Montague is sent to Hilltop Road to live among human children and challenge Raymond Fielding. She kills him but becomes bound to the area.
- 1968:
- June: Trevor Herbert finds and kills his second vampire.
- 1970s:
- Unclear date: Nikolai Denikin leaves Another Circus, taking the Calliope with him and weakening its performances.
- Unclear date: Head Archivist Angus Stacey is killed by The Grinning Wheel tearing his face off as he tried to re-categorize and redefine the Dread Powers, resulting in his only surviving assistant Gertrude Robinson being named Head Archivist.
- 1974:
- The house at Hilltop Road burns down.
- 1982:
- 2nd August: Due to a number of factors, including an injury to his foot and addictions to heroin and the Hunt, Trevor Herbert misidentifies a man named Alard Dupont as a vampire and murders him.
- 1987: Harold Sylvana and Rachel Turley are interviewed by Jurgen Leitner, who unsuccessfully attempts to convince them to break through the floor of his Pall Mall office into the tunnels built by Robert Smirke below.
- Some years after 1987: Harold Silvana, Rachel Turley, and Alfred Bartlett are taking a break from doing restoration work in the basement of the Reform Club on Pall Mall when they encounter a teenaged Gerard Kaey. Gerard breaks into a hidden entrance to a system of subterranean tunnels, each corresponding to one of the fourteen Dread Powers, built by Robert Smirke, and all four enter them to explore. Gerard breaks off from the group to take a Leitner book; Alfred pursues him down a tunnel belonging to the Flesh and dies of unknown causes. The remaining three people escape the tunnels, which are then resealed.
- 1990s:
- Joshua Gillespie is approached by "John", a creature of the Stranger, and unknowingly agrees to look after the Coffin. It is delivered to him a year later and Joshua manages to resist its attempts to coerce him into opening it and entering the Buried for a year and a half. When "John" returns with Breekon and Hope, the Coffin takes it instead of Joshua, and the Coffin remains bound to Breekon and Hope.
- 1990:
- Linette Montauk attempts to leave the People's Church of the Divine Host, and Maxwell Raynor sends the Still and Lightless Beast to kill her. Robert Montauk leaves the police force and begins to murder people to feed or empower the Beast, possibly because he believes Raynor can return his wife, but certainly to protect his daughter Julia Montauk from being killed as well.
- 1991:
- Autumn: Carlos Vittery encounters and accidentally kills a spider and its spawn, instilling a phobia based around the presence of spiders.
- 1995:
- Autumn: Robert Montauk performs a ritual to temporarily kill the Still and Lightless Beast. The Beast attacks the Montauk household during this ritual and Julia Montauk calls the police, causing them to discover evidence of Robert's 40 murders. He is chased, caught, and sentenced to life imprisonment in HMP Wakefield.
- 1996:
- September: Michael Crew discards the Leitner book The Boneturner's Tale in Chiswick Library, where it is found by Jared Hopworth, who begins using it to twist his family and himself, gradually becoming an avatar of the Flesh.
- October: Jared Hopworth's mother attempts to return The Boneturner's Tale to Chiswick Library, blaming Jared's former friend Sebastian Adekoya for exposing him to it. Later that night Jared breaks into the library to retrieve the book, confronting Sebastian and displaying his new inhuman abilities.
- 1997:
- September: Michael Crew begins to frequent antique bookstore Lion Street Books, run by Herbert Knox, looking for Leitners and books on the arcane.
- 5th September: Gertrude Robinson takes a statement directly from Walter Heller to learn the location of the Serapeum of the Great Library of Alexandria. She subsequently destroys it.
- 1998:
- Unknown date: HMP Wakefield completes its construction of its ultra-high security Close Supervision Center, and Robert Montauk is chosen as one of the prisoners to be held within.
- January: Book dealer Kirsten Bowman dies after falling down some stairs. She leaves her stock to Herbert Knox, including the Leitner book Ex Altiora.
- February: Michael Crew buys Ex Altiora from Herbert Knox. Michael's check bounces however and Knox tries to get the book back, ending up witnessing Michael Crew being chased by the creature of the Spiral hunting him and Michael's ritual pledging himself to service of the Vast and binding the creature to Ex Altiora.
2000s
- 2002:
- March: Robert Montauk is visited by Maxwell Raynor, who tells him that the Still and Lightless Beast is alive again.
- 3rd June: Robert Kelly goes on a skydive involving Simon Fairchild, avatar of the Vast, and upon jumping finds himself in a location with no ground or clouds, just endless blue sky in all directions. After an indeterminate amount of time falling, possibly days, he returns to the real world and lands safely, discovering that he had only been missing for fifteen minutes. Robert immediately quits his skydiving job and goes home to his mother.
- 6th June: Robert Kelly arrives at the house of his mother Moira Kelly and attempts to explain what had happened to him on his last skydive.
- 7th June: Moira Kelly takes her son Robert Kelly out to a picnic at the top of a hill, where Robert is 'eaten' by the sky.
- Late in the year: Christof Rudenko moves into the ground floor flat at Welbeck House and catches his first glimpse of his upstairs neighbor Toby Carlisle, avatar of the Flesh.
- 1st November: The power goes out in HMP Wakefield and Robert Montauk is killed by the Still and Lightless Beast, and is witnessed by prison officers Phillip Brown and Pete Gordo.
- 2003:
- July: The Distortion temporarily shifts its focus from Marcus MacKenzie to his father, Paul MacKenzie. The Distortion torments Paul every night by walking down his hallway and trying to force open his bedroom door, unless someone else is in the house with him. Paul is unable to get evidence of his nightly intruder and so is unable to get anyone to believe him. Paul also refuses to move out of his house, and so doesn't sleep.
- October: Paul MacKenzie dies of a stroke.
- 2004:
- August: Nikolai Denikin, former player of the Calliope for Another Circus, dies. His granddaughter Leanne Denikin takes possession of his house and its contents, including the Calliope and several dolls linked to the Stranger.
- Unknown dates: Leanne Denikin plays the Calliope twice. Breekon and Hope break into her house and remove the Calliope and the dolls. Leanne's former partner is found murdered several days later in a manner linked to the dolls.
- 2005:
- 5th July: Toby Carlisle begins to nail pieces of meat to the walls, floor, and ceiling of his second floor flat at Welbeck House, due to backlash from the failure of the Flesh's ritual of the Last Feast.
- September: Amy Patel begins a criminology class and meets Graham Folger.
- November 2005 - March 2010: The entity known as the Angler Fish hunts in the area of Fish Market Close, Edinburgh, Scotland, taking people so their skins and bodies can be used in the Unknowing. Its confirmed victims are Sarah Baldwin, Daniel Rawlings, Ashley Dobson, and Megan Shaw, and possibly Jessica McEwan and John Fellowes.
- December: Amy Patel discovers that she lives on the same street as Graham Folger. She is attacked by the Not-Them and receives a concussion, causing her to see exactly which flat Graham lives in. She begins to spy on him in her spare time, witnessing his odd behavior.
- 2006:
- 17th April: Jared Hopworth tracks down former childhood friend Sebastian Adekoya and twists him to death.
- 7th July: Amy Patel witnesses the Not-Them entering Graham Folger's flat to kill and replace him. She calls the police but they find nothing out of the ordinary, and Not-Graham begins to spy on and harass Amy until she moves.
- August: Simon Fairchild commissions a dive to sunken yacht off the coast of Sable Island, Canada; during the dive Antonia Hayley encounters the Vast and manages to escape, requiring hospitalization for the bends.
- November: Ivo Lensik is called in to work on constructing the new house on Hilltop Road. He encounters the ghost of Raymond Fielding and, agitated by the encounter, slips and hits his head, necessitating his hospitalization. In the hospital he meets Anna Kasuma, who tells him the history of Raymond Fielding and Agnes Montague before he is discharged. Ivo returns to work at Hilltop Road and continues to see ghosts.note
- 23rd November: Ivo Lensik is attacked at Hilltop Road by the Desolation, suddenly feeling like he is burning alive. The attack stops with the arrival of Father Edwin Burroughs, who was sent by Anna Kasuma to investigate. Ivo goes outside as Fr. Burroughs perform a blessing on the house. The Desolation attacks Burroughs in the same way it attacked Ivo, but another Power tells the Desolation through Burroughs that he is already claimed. Meanwhile, Ivo is compelled to uproot the tree in the house's garden, stopping the attack on Burroughs and severely injuring Agnes Montague through her link to Hilltop Road. Agnes Montague then hangs herself that night, in an attempt to return some of her power to the Desolation.note
- 2007:
- Exact date unknown: Oliver Banks has a stress-induced meltdown that causes him to leave his job, and he begins to have dreams about people's deaths.
- Exact date unknown: Catholic priest Father Edwin Burroughs attempt to exorcise Bethany O'Connor, a victim of the Spiral. The exorcism fails and the Spiral begins to affect Fr. Burroughs, who is reprimanded for Bethany's death and told not to perform exorcisms for a time.note
- June: Private investigator Gregory Pryor is contracted by Nicola Loredo to follow her husband Hector Loredo to find evidence of his cheating on her. Gregory instead finds evidence Hector is running drugs for a crime group. Hector loses one of the shipments and is sent to Jared Hopworth for execution. Gregory witnesses Jared twisting Hector to death and manages to escape, losing one of his arms in the process.
- October 22nd: The rotting meat from Toby Carlisle's flat at Welbeck House seeps into the flat of Christof Rudenko downstairs. Christof goes upstairs to confront Toby Carlisle, but finds him dead from gangrene and a creature of the Flesh in the flat, which disappears soon after.
- 2008:
- Several undisclosed dates, beginning in winter: a group of refuse collectors including Kieran Woodward and Alan Parfitt find trash bags containing unsettling items at 93 Lancaster Road, Walthamstow, England. It culminates in finding a bag full of 2,780 copies of the same human tooth. Alan begins to watch the house in an attempt to find the culprit, getting himself fired.
- 8th August: Alana Parfitt texts Kieran Woodward claiming to have found the man leaving the strange trash. Alan immediately goes missing, and when Kieran checks 93 Lancaster Road he finds a trash bag containing a crude metal carving of a human heart with Alan Parfitt's name engraved on it.
- Late September: Mary Kaey mutilates herself in an attempt to bind herself to and take full control of the Catalogue of the Trapped Dead. She begs Gerard Kaey to help her but he flees instead. Mary dies, partially succeeding in her task, and Gerard is arrested on suspicion of murder. Mary manages to manifest herself to contaminate evidence and threaten witnesses, and Gerard is released.
- 2009:
- Exact date unknown: Lee Kipple unwittingly attends a performance by Grifter's Bone, a band led by an avatar of the Slaughter. Lee survives the performance, though he is wounded in the process and finds that his ears won't stop bleeding.
- February: Surveyor Jason North comes across and accidentally destroys Gertrude's ritual circle protecting her from the Desolation in a remote location near Loch Glass in Scotland. After this event, everything Jason cares about begins to burn.
- 6th August: Jason North makes his statement to the Magnus Institute.
- 10th August: Jason North sets himself on fire in a successful attempt to save his son from the Desolation.
- September: Andrea Nunis travels to Genoa, Italy, in the company of Ethan Taylor. While wandering Genoa she encounters Gerard Kaey who warns her that she is marked by one of the Powers and offers advice on how to save herself from it. When Ethan goes missing Andrea searches for him, finding a location/creature of the Lonely and managing to escape after remembering Gerard's advice.
- 23rd November: Nurse Anna Kasuma calls Father Edwin Burroughs and asks him to go to the house on Hilltop Road to speak to Ivo Lensik about his encounter with the ghost of Raymond Fielding (see 23rd November 2006 for details).note
- 24th November: Father Edwin Burroughs is assailed by several powers, mainly the Spiral, culminating in his unknowingly eating the flesh of two students in the basement of 89 Bullingdon Road during an intense hallucination. Upon returning to his senses he willingly enters police custody and pleads guilty to all charges, being sentenced to life imprisonment at HMP Wakefield.note
- December: Thomas Neill joins a team headed by Dr. Neil Thompson attempting to craft a blood substitute that can be used to lure mosquitoes.
- 2010:
- May: Neil Thompson approaches Thomas Neil for help in selling an antique syringe to Mikaele Salesa to find funding for their project. After the sale, the building begins to display unnatural heat and the mosquitoes begin to behave irregularly. One of the researchers drops a lure bagh after the mosquitoes feed from it and an unknown red substance that was not their blood substitute.
- 30th May: The red substance is identified as human blood infected with malaria, yellow fever, hepatitis B, cholera, and other unidentified diseases and substances. The project is shut down and the staff are quarantined; Dr. Neil Thompson attempts to kill the mosquitoes in revenge but they escape their cages and swarm him, eventually killing him through blood loss.
- November: After leaving her previous ship in Porto do Itaqui, Carlita Sloane signs on with Peter Lukas's cargo ship, the Tundra. She witnesses the crew's strange treatment of each other and discovers that all of the cargo containers are empty. Several days into the voyage, the ship's officers gather up all of the crew with the exception of one Sean Kelly and leave the Tundra briefly, returning after a sudden fog envelops the ship and then dissipates. Carlita does not see Sean Kelly again and leaves the Tundra as soon as it makes port in Southampton.
- 30th November: Lawrence Mortimer travels from England to the United States to hunt elk in the company of Arden Neeli. While on the trail they encounter a Hunter that begins to stalk them.
- 1st December: The Hunter kills Arden and chases Lawrence over the course of the night. Lawrence manages to surprise the Hunter and severely wound it before escaping.
- 2011:
- Exact dates unknown: Lee Rentoul commissions Angela, an avatar of the Flesh, to kill Paul Noriga. After weeks of nothing obviously happening to Noriga, Rentoul murders him himself, and the curse that Angela had put on Noriga passes to Rentoul, causing him to lose pieces of his body one at a time until his death.
- April: Sean Kelly's body washes up on the shore of Morocco; despite being missing for six months, his body shows signs of only being in the water for five days.
- July: Ivy Meadows Care Home in Woodley, Greater Manchester officially closes, but is really taken over by avatar of the Corruption John Amherst, who subjects the staff and elderly inhabitants to a horrible disease and flies; his victims include the father of Melanie King.
- August, exact dates unknown: One of the inhabitants of Ivy Meadows dies and nurse Alenka Kozel secretly calls Nicole Baxter of Baxter and Gordon Funeral Directors. John Amherst reluctantly allows Nicole and her cousin Josh to take the body, which is promptly burned and disposed of. Two weeks later Nicole receives another call from Alenka and returns to Ivy Meadows, witnessing the fate of it residents. She flees the area after meeting Hunters Trevor Herbert and Julia Montauk, who burn the building down with the residents inside.
- August, exact dates unknown: Police officers Basira Hussein and John Spencer are called in to arrest avatar of the Desolation Diego Molina. They succeed but Molina says something to Spencer that Basira doesn't catch, and Spencer is later caught trying to destroy a Leitner book in Molina's possession that had been taken as evidence. Spencer is suspended and sent home, where he is killed by the Desolation, and Diego Molina is allowed to go free.
- 23rd December: A confrontation between Diego Molina and Gerard Kaey results in the hospitalization of both. Diego begins chanting in the hospital, causing strange events as witnessed by nurse Lesere Saraki until Gerard murders him.
- 2012:
- March: Antique seller André Romeo purchases several antiques for resale from Mikaele Salesa, including an object and creature of the Spiral, a clay pot with a fractal design. The pot and/or the creature inside begins taking things and replacing them with other items, and only André is capable of remembering that the taken things ever existed. Eventually the pot returns the stolen items but takes André's husband David, then disappears and continues to haunt André.
- 10th November: Dominic Swain finds the Leitner book Ex Altiora in a secondhand store and purchases it.
- 11th November: Dominic Swain finds Pinhole Books and meets the dead Mary Kaey. He discovers the woodcut with a Lichtenberg figure that reminds him of his childhood friend Michael Crew. Gerard Kaey follows Dominic to his home and purchases Ex Altiora, before immediately burning it.
- 2013:
- February: Jane Prentiss discovers the "wasp's nest", a creature/object of the Corruption, in the attic of her flat. After trying to resist its influence for a time, even going to the Magnus Institute to make a statement on the 23rd, she ultimately gives in to it, transforming herself into the flesh hive, an avatar of the Corruption.
- 12th July: David Laylow finds himself trapped in an infinite version of the slaughterhouse where he worked. He escapes after possibly assisting Tom Haan, and avatar of the Flesh, in some kind of ritual.
- October, exact dates unknown: Jennifer Ling convinces Lee Kipple to tell her his story of his encounter with Grifter's Bone and begins doing her own research on the band. A comment on her article leads her to the Soho district one evening. Jennifer briefly encounters the death prophet Oliver Banks, who attempts to warn her about protecting her hearing, and then spots Grifter's Bone and follows them to a jazz club which contains the ghosts of everyone who died by violence in London during October. Jennifer makes a recording of the show but avoids hearing it directly, avoiding its violence-inducing effects at first.
- 3rd November: Jennifer Ling makes her statement to the Magnus Institute.
- November, exact date unknown: Jennifer Ling manages to access her recording of the Grifter's Bone performance. She then assaults her neighbor with a claw hammer, sending her into a coma, before turning the hammer on herself, killing herself.
- 2014:
- Unknown date: Danny Stoker goes to explore a “ghost building” designed by Robert Smirke below The Royal Opera House. He encounters The Circus of the Other and returns to Timothy Stoker’s home crying and repeating the words “Joey” and “the show must go on”. The next day, Tim wakes to learn that Danny went back. He goes to find Danny only to find him skinned alive by Nikola.
- 14th June: Laura Popham and Alena Sanderson enter Lost Johns' Cave and become trapped by the Buried. Laura is rescued the next day, Alena is never found.
- 18th July: Police officers Basira Hussein and Alice 'Daisy' Tonner are called to investigate gunshots. They arrive to find an avatar of the End (possibly Nathaniel Thorpe) who had attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head, but found that he could not die.
- October: Natalie Ennis's mother dies, causing her to lose faith in the Christian god. Several months later she joins the People's Church of the Divine Host and begins to worship the Dark.
- 18th November: Harriet Lee is attacked by Jane Prentiss on Elthorne Road, Archway, and is infected by a worm.
- 20th November: Harriet Lee meets and has sex with Timothy Hodge, infecting him. Harriet's own infection suddenly accelerates and she explodes into worms, causing Timothy to burn down his apartment.
- 21st December: Oliver Banks sees his father's death in his dreams.
- 31st December: Oliver Banks's father dies despite Oliver's attempts to save him.
- 2015:
- Exact date unknown: Carlos Vittery is haunted by the spider he killed as a child, feeling increasingly compelled to kill it repeatedly, until he is found dead from suffocations due to spider/s in his throat and encased in spiderweb.

- January: Melanie King and her team sneak into the condemned Cambridge Military Hospital to film an episode of their ghost hunting podcast. They bring with them temporary sound engineer Sarah Baldwin, a creature of the Stranger. While the rest of the team is asleep, Sarah sneaks off and attempts to apologize to the ghostly creature of the Slaughter that claimed the hospital as its territory. Melanie follows Sarah unnoticed and witnesses her being attacked by the ghost and then remove and reattach part of her skin.
- 11 March: Natalie Ennis attempts to recruit her roommate Katherine Harper into worship of the Dark, under the name "Mr. Pitch." Katherine flees and her boyfriend Mark Bilhan attempts to track down Natalie only to find she has disappeared. He follows her trail to the abandoned Hither Green Dissenters chapel and inadvertently enters one of the Dark's hidden strongholds, where Mark encounters members of the People's Church of the Divine Host and possibly the Still and Lightless Beast. Mark escapes and reports Natalie's disappearance to the police.
- 12th March: Oliver Banks sees Gertrude Robinson's death in his dreams.
- 14th March: Oliver Banks make a statement under the name Antonio Blake in an attempt to warn Gertrude Robinson about her impending death.
- 22nd March: Evan Lukas dies unexpectedly, leaving behind his fiancé Naomi Herne.
- 29th March: Naomi Herne goes to the Lukas household for the funeral of her fiancé Evan Lukas. After being dismissed by the family Naomi flees and winds up entering the Lonely, only escaping with the help of Evan.
- Unclear date: Gertrude Robinson and Jurgen Leitner attempt to destroy the Archives. Jonah Magnus catches Gertrude in the act and murders her with a gun, hiding her body and files in the tunnels of Millbank Prison and appointing Jonathan Sims as the new Archivist.note
- Unclear date: Jonathan Sims, Martin Blackwood, Sasha James and Timothy Stoker start work as the Archives team. Martin accidentally lets a dog into the Archives, infuriating Jon.
- 2016:
- Unclear date: The Distortion in its form of Michael attends a house viewing run by Helen Richardson. She walks through its door into the Distortion and is trapped for three days before managing to escape.
- January: Dr. Lionel Elliot reluctantly tales charge of an overflow Biomedical Engineering course. The students are all creatures of the Stranger, and Dr. Elliot witnesses their horrifying antics during those classes he does not manage to miss until the course's termination in March, when they leave him an apple filled with human teeth.
- 13th January: Jonathan Sims takes a statement directly from Naomi Herne, victim of the Lonely.
- 28th February: Martin Blackwood goes to Boothby Road to investigate Carlos Vittery's death and encounters Jane Prentiss in the basement of his former apartment building. Martin flees to his own flat, losing his phone in the process; Jane Prentiss pursues him, retrieving his phone and sending messages posing as Martin saying he's fallen ill.
- 29th February: Jane Prentiss lays siege to Martin Blackwood's flat, preventing him from leaving or contacting anyone.
- 12th March: Jane Prentiss ends her siege of Martin Blackwood's flat, allowing him to escape to the Magnus Insitute and give a statement about his experience. Martin begins living in the Archives. Jane Prentiss moves into the tunnels below the Archives and begins building an army of worms to destroy it.
- 31st March: Archival researcher Sasha James notices the Distortion in its form of Michael watching her from various places. When she leaves work that day Sasha finally confronts Michael, who claims to want to be friends and tells her to meet it the next day to prevent the deaths of her coworkers.
- 1st April: Sasha meets with Michael again, eho leads her to the worm-infested Timothy Hodge. Timothy attacks Sasha, who uses a CO₂ fire extinguisher provided by Michael to defend herself, revealing the worms' fatal weakness to it. Sasha returns to the Archives and informs everyone of what she learned.
- 12th July: Jonathan Sims takes a statement directly from Dr. Lionel Elliott, victim of the Stranger.
- July, exact date unknown: Creature/s of the Stranger Breekon and Hope deliver the Web table containing the bound Not-Them and the Web cigarette lighter to the Archives.
- 29th July: Jane Prentiss launches her attack on the Magnus Institute.
- Jonathan Sims accidentally discovers an entrance to the tunnels after killing a spider. This forces Prentiss to attack and begin her ritual to summon the Corruption before she is truly ready, and Jon, Sasha, and Martin manage to fend off the initial wave of worms and escape into a climate-controlled storage room. Tim unwittingly enters the Archives during the first attack and Sasha leaves the safety of the storage room to warn him; Sasha escapes the Archives into the rest of the Institute and Tim escapes into the tunnels, now largely empty of worms.
- Sasha finds Elias Bouchard (Jonah Magnus) and informs him of the situation; together they go to manually set off the carbon dioxide fire suppression system.
- While traveling the tunnels, Tim finds the room where Prentiss's worms are attempting to create a doorway that the Corruption will enter the world through; Tim destroys the ritual by thoroughly gassing the room with a CO₂ fire extinguisher.
- Tim breaks into the storage room where Jon and Martin have taken shelter and the three go into the tunnels in an attempt to escape. During an encounter with the worms Martin becomes separated from the others and begins to wander the tunnels.
- Sasha is separated from Jonah Magnus when they encounter a mass of worms in one of the Institute's upper floors. She escapes into Artifact Storage where she is killed and replaced by the Not-Them.
- Jon and Tim find the trap door leading into the Archives and are caught by Jane Prentiss. They are attacked by worms and left scarred, with Jon being marked by the Corruption and Tim emotionally traumatized.
- Jonah Magnus, who had been waiting for Jon to be caught by Prentiss and marked by the Corruption, activates the fire suppression system, killing Prentiss and the worms.
- Martin discovers the room in the tunnels where Gertrude Robertson and her files were hidden, managing to eventually return to the Archives during the ECDC's cleanup of the attack's aftermath.
- August, exact dates unknown: Jonathan Sims makes his first explorations of the tunnels below the Institute, briefly encountering an unrevealed Jurgen Leitner. He also begins to secretly investigate the other members of the Archives team, suspecting one of them of being Gertrude Robertson's murderer.
- 19th September: Jonathan Sims takes a statement directly from police officer Basira Hussein, victim of the Desolation and the End. Basira agrees to provide Jon with occasional access to the tapes found by Gertrude's body, ostensibly so he can help with the investigation, but really to keep him in one place as she suspects Jon of being Gertrude's murderer.
- 2nd October: Jonathan Sims takes a statement directly from Helen Richardson, victim of the Spiral. The Distortion in its form of Michael recaptures her immediately following the statement, and in the ensuing confrontation with Jon ends up stabbing him, leaving him marked by the Spiral.
- 3rd November: Jonathan Sims takes a statement directly from pest control worker Jordan Kennedy, victim of the Corruption. They discuss Jane Prentiss and possible other Flesh Hives.
- 2017:
- Dates unknown: During the disappearance of Jonathan Sims; Martin Blackwood, Melanie King, Timothy Stoker and Basira Hussain all attempt to take statements from various persons with mixed results. Shortly after Melanie’s statement, Peter Lukas appears and banishes her statement giver Brian to The Lonely.
- 25th January: Jonathan Sims takes a statement from Karolina Górka, victim of The Buried. She discusses her experiences trapped in the Underground and her survival. Jonathan later discovers evidence of someone living in the tunnels.
- 14th June: After learning of the Unknowning, Timothy Stoker gives a statement about his brother Danny to Martin Blackwood. Elias Bouchard (Jonah Magnus) tries to stop Tim from joining the group, but Tim tells Jonah that he is going or he can kill him.
- 7th August: Jonathan Sims, Timothy Stoker, Basira Hussain and Alice ‘Daisy’ Tonner go to a wax museum in Greater Yarmouth to stop the Unknowning ritual with explosives. The ritual begins before the team can set off the charges, resulting in them being confused and separated from each other. Daisy gives in to The Hunt, killing Hope before getting trapped in the Coffin. Basira escapes using logic, but is unable to get Tim to come with her. Jonathan is found by Nikola pretending to be Tim to draw him in to the dance. The real Tim shows up and Jon uses his Beholding powers to clear their minds. Tim is discovered to have the detonator and ultimately blows himself up to stop the ritual, resulting in his death and Jon’s coma.
